To Whom Shall We Go?  The Biblical Case for the Catholic Church

In To Whom Shall We Go? Thomas J. Nash seeks to present anew the real Jesus, the Word who became flesh (John 1:14) to save all of humanity and to employ his Mystical Bride, the Catholic Church, as his instrument of salvation and life-transforming love.

Nash makes biblical and historical arguments for the perennial relevance of Jesus and his Church. As Nash summarizes well, if the Catholic Church were merely a human institution, she would’ve entered the dustbin of history centuries ago, both because of internal scandals and external persecutions. Instead, two thousand years after the Resurrection, the Church continues to advance her God-given Great Commission (Matt 28:18-20).

Thomas J. Nash has served the Church professionally for more than thirty-five years, including as a theology advisor at the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN). He is a contributing apologist and speaker for Catholic Answers and also the author of 20 Answers: The Rosary and The Biblical Roots of the Mass. Tom has served as a regular guest apologist on Catholic Answers Live for more than a decade.

“To Whom Shall We Go is a clear, highly informative and logically organized apologia (defense) for the faith that Jesus Christ revealed to the world and continues to animate by the power of the Holy Spirit. Building on the accumulation of evidence for the solid truth of the Catholic Church and her teaching, Nash offers a text to build up the faith of Catholics and intrigue non-Catholics with a new look at Jesus’ intentions for his Church.”

Fr. Mitch Pacwa, S.J., Ph.D.Scripture Scholar and Host of EWTN Live

“In his book, To Whom Shall We Go?: The Biblical Case for the Catholic Church, author Thomas J. Nash combines solid biblical exegesis with logical human reasoning to defend the truth that Jesus Christ established a literal Church. It is this same Church—one, holy, catholic, and apostolic—that delivers to all humanity the Faith that constitutes the fullness of divine Christian revelation. This book proves well the famous quote once uttered by the early Church bishop and martyr, St. Ignatius of Antioch: ‘Wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church.’”

Fr. Wade L. J. Menezes, C.P.M., Fathers of Mercy, Author, and EWTN Global Catholic Radio Host

“Many Catholics today are put on the defensive as to why there is a need for the hierarchy of the Church, the sacraments, and the communion of saints. Thomas J. Nash is aware of all the attacks made against Catholic beliefs, and he provides an engaging and biblically rooted explanation for Catholic perspectives on topics like salvation, Church authority, and the Eucharist. He also provides helpful historical perspectives on the trial of Galileo, the Crusades, and the Inquisition.”

Robert Fastiggi, Professor of Systematic Theology at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit

To Whom Shall We Go? is more than a book of apologetics. It’s an homage to the Church of Jesus Christ, paid by a man who deeply loves the Church and Jesus Christ. Yes, the book provides responses to the most common attempts to discredit the Church. But the author never belabors his points or wearies his readers. Nash writes with the admirable concision of an experienced journalist. This book is useful for its arguments, but even more for its encouragement. Much recommended.”

Mike Aquilina, Author of How the Fathers Read the Bible

“As he did with the Holy Eucharist in The Biblical Roots of the Mass, Thomas J. Nash has written a readable, thorough, and convincing argument for the biblical truth, indeed the necessity, of the Catholic Church as Christ’s chosen instrument for the evangelization and sanctification of the world. Both seekers, and those who wish to guide them, will find his arguments fresh, often humorously presented, but always eminently useful.”

Colin Donovan, S.T.L.Vice President for Theology at EWTN
