The devotion to Our Lady of Good Counsel is deeply rooted in the spirituality of the Order of St. Augustine. For more than five centuries, the Augustinian Friars have cared for the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Counsel in Genazzano, Italy, encouraging countless pilgrims to seek Mary's wisdom as she gently leads every soul to Christ. Echoing the words of St. Augustine—whose heart was "restless until it rests" in God—this Marian devotion reminds us to seek God's will with confidence, trusting in the loving guidance of His Mother.

The feast of Our Lady of Good Counsel is celebrated on April 26. The devotion grew after a miraculous event in 1467, when an image of the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared on the wall of an unfinished church in Genazzano. Two Albanian pilgrims recognized the image as the same miraculous icon that had mysteriously disappeared from its shrine in Shkodër, Albania. News of the miracle spread rapidly, drawing thousands of pilgrims as countless graces and healings were reported. Their generous donations completed both the church and the adjoining Augustinian convent, transforming Genazzano into one of the Church's most treasured Marian pilgrimage sites.

Today, Our Lady of Good Counsel is honored as the Patroness of the Military Council of Catholic Women (MCCW), offering wisdom, strength, and maternal guidance to Catholic women serving in the military, as well as to military spouses and families who faithfully support them through every season of service.
