Regular price $ 45.50This 19th century Russian icon portrays the synaxis (assembly) of the holy Angels and Archangels.
In the center is an orb containing Christ as Emmanuel. Behind Christ, holding orbs reading IC XC ("Jesus Christ"), is the chief Archangel, Saint Michael. Flanking Christ are the Archangels Gabriel, in blue, and Raphael, in green.æIn the back row are the other four traditional Archangels, left to right, Jegudiel, Selaphiel, Uriel, and Barachiel. Holding Christ's orb is a Seraph, with two Cherubim besides.
All of the angels' names come from Hebrew, and they mean the following: Michael, Who is like God?; Gabriel, Man of God; Raphael, Healing of God; Uriel, Light of God; Selaphiel, Intercessor of God; Jegudiel, Glorifier of God; Barachiel, Blessing of God. Other ranks of angels include the Seraphim, Burning Ones, and the Cherubim, Mighty Ones. The feast of the Archangels and Bodiless Powers is celebrated November 8.
