Saint Martha, the Sister of Lazarus, Icon 3X3.75

Saint Martha was a sister of Lazarus, whom Christ raised from the dead. She was one of the Myrrh-bearing Women who came to the Lord's tomb on the morning of Pascha.

After the murder of Saint Stephen, a persecution broke out in Jerusalem and Lazarus and his sisters were forced to leave the city. They preached the Gospel in various places.

Saint Martha is commemorated on June 4 and on the Sunday of the Myrrh-bearing Women. In light of the story in the Gospel of Luke (10:38-42) about Martha's anxiety in serving the Lord at table, she is considered a patron saint for those who are prone to anxiety and worrying.
