This Russian icon depicts the scene at the Lord’s crucifixion on Holy Friday. The two thieves are shown crucified with him. Christ’s most faithful disciples are with him, as the Gospel tells: his Mother, John, Martha, and Mary. Saint Longinus the Centurion is shown at the right, making his confession that Christ was the Son of God.
