Christ Pantocrator with Prophets and Evangelists (Illumination) Icon 6x7.5"
Regular price $ 45.50/
This beautiful example of Western iconography is a manuscript illumination by Haregarius of Tours (France), dating from about the year 850.
Christ is enthroned in the center, surrounded by the four Evangelists (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) and the four major Prophets (Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel).
Typical especially of Western iconography, the Evangelists are also represented by their symbolic representations: an angel for Matthew, a lion for Mark, an ox for Luke, and an eagle for John. These symbols come from the four living creatures in the prophecy of Ezekiel.
