St. Jude is another Apostle whose role in Jesus’ ministry is not elaborated on in scripture.  When he is named among the Apostles, he is also called Thaddeus or Lebbaeus. It is not known how he was called to Jesus or exactly what he achieved afterward. He did spend his own ministry, following the Ascension, in Persia. He was martyred there, and we do know that martyrdom is one of the greatest ways someone can follow Christ, and become an example of Christ themselves.

In the icon, St. Jude is dressed in red, blue, and gold. He holds his right hand in a Byzantine blessing, where is two pointed fingers represent Jesus Christ’s two natures.

This icon was painted by Fr. Theodore Koufos of blessed memory. Offered by permission.
