Burial of Christ- Epitaphios, 9x6"

This historic Byzantine icon of the Burial of Christ depicts the moment before He is laid to rest in the tomb. 

After the life-giving death of Jesus, St. Joseph of Arimathea asked for His precious body, in order to give Him a dignified burial. Pilate granted his request, and this icon shows the scene of the Lord's burial. St. Joseph, St. Nicodemus, St. John the Beloved Disciple, and the Three Myrrh Bearers all prepare the body for Christ’s three-day burial. 

This is a key part of Holy Friday and as a preparation for the Resurrection in two days’ time.
