The Greek letters ΜΡ ΘΥ (short for ΜΗΤΗΡ ΘΕΟΥ,\u003cbr\u003e\"Mother of God\") are inscribed to the right of the head of the Virgin Mary. She\u003cbr\u003epresents the need of the couple to Jesus.
