Also known as Saint Luke, or Luke the Evangelist, Saint Lucas was one of the Seventy Apostles and wrote the Gospel of Luke (New Testament). Saint Lucas is credited with founding iconography and was also a scholar, studying philosophy, art, and medicine. October 18 is the primary feast day for Saint Lucas, but he is also celebrated on April 22 and June 20.

Saint Lucas is depicted wearing blue and green robes, which symbolize the Kingdom of God, hope, and eternal renovation. The book in his hands references the Gospel of Luke in the New Testament. Saint Luke is the patron saint of artists, especially iconographers, as he is the father of iconography. He is also the patron saint of doctors and surgeons, due to his profession as a physician.
