More About Divine Mercy Sunday

On one occasion, I heard these words:  My daughter, tell the whole world about my inconceivable mercy.

Divine Mercy Sunday

In the Jubilee Year 2000, Pope John Paul II proclaimed that from that year forward the Second Sunday of Easter would be celebrated as Divine Mercy Sunday. This was proclaimed at the Canonization Mass of St. Faustina Kawalska, who worked throughout her life to make all aware of the merciful love of God. In her spiritual life, her contemplJesus Divine Mercy pictures 03.jpegation on the Mercy of God led her to develop a childlike trust in God and deep love for her neighbor. You can read more about the devotion at Loyola Press.

Check your parish for activities surrounding this important day in the Church. For instance, St. Leo the Great will celebrate with a Holy Hour at 3pm. The Chaplet of Mercy will be sung and there will be Exposition and Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament.

Honor the King of Mercy in this special way, in this special Year of Mercy.

Thank You, Mother Angelica

Mother_Angelica“My life is truly filled with God. His Mercy comforts me when I fall. His Providence takes care of me when I worry. His Goodness makes me good. His Power upholds me. His Love fills me. His Wisdom is my guide. His Changelessness gives me security. His Tranquility makes me calm. His Majesty fills me with awe. His Beauty entrances me. His Joy sustains me in sorrow. His Light enlightens my path. His Omnipresence surrounds me like a cloak. His Imminence fills me through and through. His Transcendence is above me like a warm sun. His Grandeur thrills my soul. His Unity brings all things together in Him. I lose myself like an atom in the universe, when I realize that this Great God loves me.”

Thank you, Mother Angelica, for your words and your works.

May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

He is Merciful

Crucifixion Orthodox Icon

“He is the Merciful Father who, in Jesus, loves us beyond measure, always awaits our conversion every time we make mistakes; he awaits our return when we turn away from him thinking we can do without him; he is always ready to open his arms no matter what happened.”

~Pope Francis, Sunday, March 6th Angelus

Maundy Thursday

During these days of the Holy Triduum let us not limit ourselves to commemorating the passion of the Lord, but let us enter into the mystery, making his feelings and thoughts our own, as the Apostle Paul invites us to do: “Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus” (Phil 2:5).

~Pope Francis, April 1, 2015

The Paschal Lamb

Many of our guests are curious about the symbolism in the paschal lamb. According to the Catholic Encyclopedia, PASCHAL means: a lamb which the Israelites were commanded to eat with peculiar rites as a part of the Passover celebration.

That the Paschal Lamb prefigured symbolically Christ, “the Lamb of God”, who redeemed the world by the sFullSizeRenderhedding of His blood, and particularly the Eucharistic banquet, or new Passover, has always remained the constant belief of Christian tradition.

Palm Sunday

The Feast of St. Joseph

St. Joseph is the patron of many, among some are: fathers and families, carpenters and workers, immigrants, unborn children, the dying, the doubtful and the Universal Church.

An Ancient Prayer to Saint Joseph

O St. Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God, I place in thee all my interests and desires. O St. Joseph, assist me by thy powerful intercession and obtain for me all spiritual blessings through thy foster Son, Jesus Christ Our Lord, so that, having engaged here below thy heavenly power, I may offer thee my thanksgiving and homage.

O St. Joseph, I never weary contemplating thee and Jesus asleep in thine arms. I dare not approach while He reposes near thy heart. Press Him in my name and kiss His fine head for me, and ask Him to return the kiss when I draw my dying breath.

St. Joseph, patron of departing souls, pray for me.

St. Patrick, Bishop

Today is the feast of Saint Patrick, who through many hardships brought Christ to the people of Ireland.patrick_shamrock_0

“I give unceasing thanks to my God, who kept me faithful in the day of my testing. Today I can offer him sacrifice with confidence, giving myself as a living victim to Christ, my Lord, who kept me safe through all my trials.”
